MAX DICA examines the feeling of awe that can arise while experiencing nature, in a state of psychedelic consciousness. The photographs of the desert are processed by collaging the images onto themselves, highlighting, blending, copying, and exaggerating the elements which initially drew attention to the subjects. Their tactile qualities are mimicked and emphasized by the digital interventions, but through their level of abstraction, they distort or even evade the ability to identify the subject matter, forcing the viewer to draw their own visual associations and conclusions. The images unsettle our understanding of what a photograph is or should be: their digital nature becomes increasingly clear when stepping up closer to the images, and as in the photographing process, curiosity is rewarded.
